Nancy Karp will be on sabbatical from the dance company this coming year. She will be spending an extended period of time in Sicily developing new site-specific and stage works. In recent years, Nancy has divided her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and southern Italy, where many of her dances for the company have drawn their inspiration to include: Il Mercato, La Processione and La Traversa.

This marks her third sabbatical abroad. In 1995-96 she was awarded a Senior Research Fulbright Fellowship to India where she worked with dancers and musicians at the Kerala Kalamandalam, and in the late 1980s she was in residence in Berlin and Kyoto creating works with local dancers for a number of festivals.
